How much does it cost to hire a jumping castle?

Planning a party and wondering what a jumping castle costs to hire? Short answer: most standard castles rent for R250–R700 per day in South Africa, depending on where you are and what you're hiring. Here's what drives the price — and when buying starts making more sense.

Typical hire rates

What you're hiringTypical daily rate
Small/standard castle, small townR250 – R400
Standard castle, metro areaR400 – R650
Castle with slide / comboR500 – R900
Water slide (summer)R600 – R1 000+

Many operators offer weekend rates (Friday to Monday) at roughly 1.5× the daily price — often the best value for a Saturday party.

What moves the price

  • Delivery and setup. Sometimes included nearby, sometimes R100–R300 extra. Always ask what the quote includes.
  • Size and type. Slides and combos cost more than plain castles; water units peak in summer.
  • Season. October–January is party season — book two weeks ahead and expect fewer discounts.
  • Condition. A bright, clean, well-anchored castle from a responsive operator is worth the extra R100 over the cheapest ad you can find. Ask whether it's supervised, how it's anchored, and whether the operator is insured (see the safety guide).

Why prices are what they are

A rental operator's castle costs roughly R11 970–R21 510 new, and smart operators charge about 5–7% of that replacement price per rental day. That's not greed — it's what keeps the castle maintained, insured and eventually replaced. A suspiciously cheap rental is usually a tired castle.

When buying beats renting

Hire 4–6 times a year and rental is clearly cheaper. But the maths flips fast:

  • A second-hand castle at R5 620 – R8 420 pays for itself in 10–15 average hires — a big family or crèche gets there in two years. Browse what's for sale.
  • A new castle from R11 970 can make sense if you'll also rent it out — at one paid rental a week it typically pays for itself within a year. That's the whole business model: see starting a rental business and try the profit calculator.

Renting often? Own the castle instead.

A sound second-hand castle is the cheapest way in — or compare new options if you plan to rent it out too.
